GC 1748 Cold Star - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1748 Cold Star is an artistic low-fire glaze that produces misty blue, cool gray, and pale transitions reminiscent of frosted surfaces. Its finish ranges from satin to matte, giving pottery forms a calm appearance with visual depth. Due to its fluid character, the glaze may pool in recessed, curved, and horizontal areas, increasing the color intensity.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not suitable for food-contact surfaces or kitchenware. It is recommended exclusively for decorative and artistic pottery projects.
Flow Warning: This product has an artistic and fluid character. Leave an unglazed safety margin near the base of vertical forms to prevent the glaze from reaching the kiln shelf during firing.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: Stir the product regularly before and during application to distribute the color- and effect-producing components evenly.
  • Surface preparation: The bisque surface must be clean, dry, and free from dust before application.
  • Brush application: The product can be applied directly with a brush. Build the coats carefully to achieve a balanced surface.
  • Sample information: The result shown in the product image was achieved by applying 3 brushed coats over white clay.
  • Drying between coats: Allow each coat to dry before applying the next one.
  • Dilution: For dipping or spray application, add 5-10% water in small increments.
  • Thickness effect: Thinner areas may display lighter, mistier blue-gray tones, while thicker areas may produce greater color intensity and more pronounced artistic transitions.
  • Form effect: The glaze may pool in recessed, curved, and horizontal areas, producing darker blue-gray tones and more dynamic surfaces.
  • Flow control: On vertical forms, allow for downward glaze movement and leave an unglazed safety margin near the base.
  • Kiln shelf protection: To protect against possible glaze runs, fire the piece on a catch plate or with a suitable kiln shelf separator.
  • Clay body selection: Misty blue, gray, and pale transitions may appear more clearly on white and light-colored clay bodies. Results may vary on dark or colored bodies.
  • Firing: Fire the product between 1020°C-1040°C using a program suitable for the selected clay body.
  • Firing schedule: Peak temperature, hold time, kiln atmosphere, and cooling schedule may affect the surface sheen, color transitions, and degree of flow.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining this product with other glazes, test color compatibility, chemical interaction, and flow on a test tile.
  • Decorative use: Apply this product only to decorative and artistic pottery surfaces. Do not use it on food-contact areas.
  • Care: Avoid abrasive cleaning products to preserve the satin-matte surface.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure that the work area is adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect from freezing.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the misty blue and gray tones, the satin-matte surface effect, and the amount of glaze flow may vary depending on application thickness, the selected clay body, peak temperature, and cooling schedule. Prepare vertical and horizontal test tiles before the main application.
