GC 1709 Meteor Drop - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1709 Meteor Drop is an artistic low-fire glaze that produces midnight blue, metallic gray, and dark reactive transitions across the surface. As the application thickness increases, its metallic reflections, color depth, and surface movement become more pronounced. Its highly fluid character gives decorative pottery forms a dramatic, variable, and distinctive appearance.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for plates, bowls, mugs, or other functional surfaces that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application until a uniform consistency is achieved.
  • Brush application: The glaze can be applied directly to a clean, dry bisque surface. Applying 3 coats is recommended to achieve a result similar to the visual sample.
  • Drying between coats: Allow the surface to dry before applying the next coat, and brush each coat in a different direction for even distribution.
  • Dipping and spray application: Depending on the application method, 5-10% water may be added gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Flow character: This glaze is highly fluid. Thick applications may increase the risk of downward movement and glaze running onto the kiln shelf.
  • Metallic effect: Application thickness, firing temperature, and cooling conditions may alter the intensity of the metallic reflections.
  • Base clearance: Leave a sufficient unglazed area around the base of vertical forms to allow for possible glaze movement.
  • Clay body selection: Metallic blue and gray transitions may appear more clearly on white clay bodies, while dark or colored bodies may produce deeper results.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of highly fluid reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. Testing the flow and metallic effect on a vertical test tile before the main application is recommended.
