GC 1645 Mercury - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1645 Mercury is a specially formulated artistic low-fire glaze that brings the cool, artistic texture of a metallic planet to pottery surfaces. Its combination of gray, silver, and anthracite tones creates a modern, deep, and metallic appearance. Due to its artistic character, varied tonal transitions may develop around contours, edges, and areas where the application thickness changes.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Brush application: The product is supplied ready to use at a consistency suitable for brush application. Applying 3 coats on white clay is recommended for a saturated metallic surface.
  • Coat application: Allow each coat to dry and brush each new coat in a different direction to achieve a more uniform covering.
  • Dipping and spray application: Add 5-10% water according to the required application consistency. Add the water gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Metallic character: The metallic appearance may vary with application thickness. Thicker areas may appear darker and more intense, while thinner areas may develop lighter gray and silver tones.
  • Clay body selection: White clay produces clearer gray and silver tones. The metallic character and surface color may vary on dark, red, or grogged clay bodies.
  • Vertical forms: Apply carefully on vertical surfaces, as thicker applications may increase the risk of glaze runs.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of metallic and artistic glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a test tile is recommended, particularly for vertical forms and before batch production.
