GC 1623 Batur - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1623 Batur is a distinctive artistic glaze that brings the depth of volcanic craters to pottery surfaces through ember-colored reflections and dramatic transitions over a dark base. Metallic textures combine with fiery tones to create a bold, mysterious, and layered appearance. The effect may become more intense around details, recessed areas, and sections with thicker applications.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for plates, bowls, mugs, or other functional surfaces that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Brush application: The product is supplied ready to use at a consistency suitable for brush application. Applying 3 coats on white clay is recommended to achieve the characteristic appearance shown in the visual sample.
  • Coat application: Allow each coat to dry and brush each new coat in a different direction to achieve a more balanced covering.
  • Effect control: Small changes in the number of coats, application thickness, and firing temperature may affect the metallic reflections and the intensity of the ember-colored transitions.
  • Dipping and spray application: Add a controlled amount of water according to the required application consistency. Excessive dilution may reduce coverage and weaken the artistic effects.
  • Clay body selection: White clay produces clearer metallic and warm tones. Red, dark, or grogged clay bodies may produce darker, more rustic results.
  • Vertical forms: Due to its artistic and fluid character, thicker applications may run. Leave an unglazed safety margin near the base and apply carefully on vertical surfaces.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a test tile is recommended for vertical forms and before batch production, particularly to evaluate the glaze’s flow.
