GC 1018 Old Turquoise - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1018 Old Turquoise is an artistic low-fire glaze that produces antique turquoise, deep blue, and dark reactive transitions across the surface. It develops vivid, pronounced turquoise tones on white clay, while application thickness, clay body, and firing conditions may create variegated, aged, and highly variable surfaces. It gives decorative pottery forms a timeless, distinctive, and artistic appearance.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for plates, bowls, mugs, or other functional surfaces that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application until a uniform consistency is achieved.
  • Consistency: The product may retain water within its body and become thicker during storage. If this occurs, add water gradually and in controlled amounts, then mix until a uniform consistency is restored.
  • Brush application: The glaze can be applied directly to a clean, dry bisque surface. Applying 3 coats is recommended to achieve a result similar to the visual sample.
  • Drying between coats: Allow the surface to dry before applying the next coat, and brush each coat in a different direction for even distribution.
  • Color character: As the number of coats and application thickness increase, the antique turquoise tone, dark blue variegation, and reactive surface movement may become more pronounced.
  • Clay body selection: White clay bodies may produce brighter and more pronounced turquoise tones, while darker or colored bodies may produce deeper and more variable results.
  • Flow control: Before use on vertical forms, prepare a test tile to observe glaze movement and color transitions.
  • Storage: Keep the product tightly closed at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and protect it from freezing.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. Test the flow, color, and distribution of variegation on a test tile before the main application.
