GC 1009 Olive Green - Ceramingo Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 1009 Olive Green is an artistic low-fire glaze that combines deep olive-green tones with metallic-looking transitions. Depending on application thickness, thin areas may develop green and metallic-looking variegation, while thicker areas can produce dark olive tones approaching black. Pigments concentrate in recessed and textured areas, adding pronounced depth to relief-decorated and sculptural forms.

Not Food Safe: Due to its artistic and metallic-looking surface character, this glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces of plates, bowls, mugs or similar items that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative vases, sculptures, reliefs and artistic objects.
Flow and Crackle Warning: The product may run in thickly applied areas and can develop glaze cracks known as crackle after firing. Leave an appropriate safety margin near the base of vertical forms.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: Mix the product regularly before and during application to distribute the pigments and components responsible for the metallic-looking effect evenly.
  • Surface preparation: The bisque-fired surface must be clean, dry and free from dust.
  • Brush application: The product can be applied directly with a brush after thorough mixing. Allow each coat to release its surface moisture before applying the next coat.
  • Thickness effect: Green and metallic-looking variegation becomes more prominent in thin applications, while thick areas may develop dark metallic-looking olive tones approaching black.
  • Form effect: The glaze may collect in recessed, curved and textured areas, producing darker tones and more pronounced color transitions.
  • Flow control: Because thick applications may run, leave a sufficient safety margin near the base of vertical forms.
  • Kiln shelf protection: Firing the piece on a protective tile or suitable kiln shelf separator is recommended to guard against possible glaze runs.
  • Crackle effect: The density of the glaze cracks may vary depending on the clay body, application thickness, peak temperature and cooling rate.
  • Dilution: For spraying and dipping, add water in small amounts, adjust the Baumé value carefully and avoid over-diluting the product.
  • Clay body effect: The sample result was obtained on white casting clay. Different clay colors may alter the final olive tone and metallic-looking appearance.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test the color compatibility, surface interaction and amount of flow on a test tile.
  • Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the artistic and metallic-looking surface character. However, the product must not be used on surfaces that come into contact with food.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure that the working area is adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the product tightly closed at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The glaze’s olive-green tone, metallic-looking transitions, crackle structure and amount of flow may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere and cooling schedule. Before the main application, preparing vertical and horizontal test tiles with your own clay and firing schedule is recommended.
