Mayco FN-042 Teal Blue is distinguished by its teal blue color, semi-transparent to semi-opaque coverage, and glossy surface character. Previously offered under the Duncan code IN1056 Aqua Fresca, this glaze creates a bright and vibrant color effect without completely covering the surface texture. Different blue-turquoise tones may develop depending on application thickness and firing temperature, and the glaze can be mixed with compatible glazes to create custom color combinations.

Application Notes

• Coat application: Applying 3 coats is recommended. Color intensity and surface coverage may vary as the number of coats increases.
• Coat effect: Thinner applications may produce lighter and more transparent turquoise tones, while thicker applications may result in richer and more pronounced blue-green tones.
• 995°C firing: At approximately 995°C, the glaze may produce a smooth, glossy, and distinct teal blue surface. At this temperature, the vibrancy and glossy character of the color may appear more pronounced.
• 1220°C firing: At approximately 1220°C, the color may become lighter and the interaction between the glaze and surface texture may become more pronounced.
• Temperature effect: Different firing temperatures between 995°C and 1220°C may alter the color intensity, transparency, and overall visual effect of the surface.
• Transparency: The semi-transparent character of the product may allow underlying surface textures and decorative details to remain partially visible.
• Color mixing: The glaze can be mixed with compatible colors to create different intermediate turquoise, blue, and green tones. Test all mixtures on a test tile before the main application.
• High-fire behavior: The surface behavior of the glaze may change at higher temperatures, and deformation may occur on the form. Controlled firing is especially recommended for thin or delicate forms.
• Clay body selection: The teal blue color may appear cleaner and more distinct on light-colored and white clay bodies. The final color may vary on darker or iron-rich clay bodies.
