Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

Refsan underglaze ready-to-use paints are highly compatible with this Fish Plaque. Firing is the essential final step to transform the porous bisque into a professional ceramic decor piece with deep, lasting colors.

  • Ceramic Firing: Fire between 1040°C and 1050°C for a resilient and high-gloss surface.
  • Tile (Çini) Firing: For traditional artisanal patterns, use tile glazes maturing at 900°C – 920°C.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Suitable for display-only decorative projects (no kiln firing required).
  • Safety Warning: Acrylic-finished plaques are not food-safe. While this is a decorative plaque, it should not come into contact with health-sensitive materials.
  • A protective varnish is recommended post-painting to preserve the design and protect the surface from dust.

Craftsmanship & Handcrafted Variations

Each Fish Plaque is fired at 1050°C to reach its sturdy bisque state. As a product of handcrafted production, minor variations in thickness, size, or clay tone (white vs. red clay) are natural hallmarks of authentic pottery, ensuring every plaque has its own unique character.

Firing Safety & Guidelines

  • Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and completely dry before glaze application.
  • Strictly adhere to the temperature requirements of your specific glaze type.
  • Performing a test fire is suggested to observe how kiln atmosphere influences the final bisque color.
