OZZ GLAZE DD-230 Caria - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

OZZ GLAZE DD-230 Caria is an artistic low-fire glaze that creates reactive transitions in vivid turquoise and sea-green tones. Its fluid character allows it to pool in recessed, curved and textured areas of the form, increasing the color intensity. After firing, it produces a glossy surface with dynamic, crystalline-like transitions that vary depending on application thickness and the clay body used.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.
Flow Warning: This product is a fluid artistic glaze. Leave an unglazed safety margin near the base of vertical forms and prevent the glaze from reaching the kiln shelf during firing.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: Mix the product regularly before and during application to ensure an even distribution of the coloring and reactive components.
  • Coat application: For brush application, apply 2-3 even coats to the bisque-fired surface, allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
  • Thickness effect: Thinner areas may display lighter turquoise tones, while sea-green tones and reactive transitions may intensify in thicker areas.
  • Crystalline-like effect: The intensity and distribution of the crystalline-like textures may vary depending on application thickness, clay body and firing schedule.
  • Reactive character: The intensity of the color transitions and surface movement may vary depending on peak temperature, kiln atmosphere and cooling schedule.
  • Flow control: Consider the glaze’s downward movement on vertical forms and apply it more thinly around the lower sections and base of the piece.
  • Kiln shelf protection: Fire the piece on a catch plate or suitable kiln shelf separator to protect against possible glaze runs.
  • Dilution: For spray and dipping applications, add water in small increments, mix the product after each addition and avoid over-dilution.
  • Form effect: The glaze may pool in recessed, curved and textured areas, creating more intense turquoise and sea-green tones, while edges and raised areas may appear lighter.
  • Clay body selection: The color and surface texture of different low-fire clay bodies may affect the appearance of the turquoise tones and crystalline-like effects.
  • Surface preparation: Remove all dust and residue from the bisque-fired surface before application.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test chemical compatibility, color transitions and the amount of flow on a test tile.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure that the workspace is adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the turquoise and sea-green tones, the distribution of the crystalline-like transitions and the amount of glaze flow may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere and cooling schedule. Preparing vertical and horizontal test tiles with different coat thicknesses is recommended before the main application.
