Goerg & Schneider Creaton 584 is a plastic stoneware clay body containing 40% grog with a particle size of 0–1 mm. It develops a salmon-colored fired surface and is particularly suitable for modeling and hand-building applications. Hand Building
Its plastic composition is suitable for slab building, coil building, and free-form modeling, providing excellent control during shaping.
Sculpture & Modeling
The coarse 0–1 mm grog particles reinforce the clay body during sculptural work while creating a distinctive textured surface.
Textured Surface Effects
The grogged body is ideal for rustic and natural-looking surfaces. Leather-hard pieces can be further refined using carving and texturing tools.
Glazing Applications
Compatible with a wide variety of glazes within the 1000–1240°C firing range. The selected glaze should match the clay body's firing temperature and thermal expansion characteristics.
DRYING & SHRINKAGE NOTICE
Drying shrinkage is approximately 5%. Medium and large ceramic pieces should be dried slowly and evenly to reduce the risk of cracking and deformation.
FIRING & WATER ABSORPTION NOTICE
As the firing temperature increases, firing shrinkage increases while water absorption decreases. These changes should be considered when determining dimensions, functional requirements, and desired surface characteristics.
GLAZE COMPATIBILITY NOTICE
Glaze performance may vary depending on firing temperature, kiln atmosphere, wall thickness, and glaze thermal expansion. Test tiles are recommended to evaluate glaze fit and prevent defects such as crazing or peeling.
