Classic Ashtray Ceramic Bisque

Our Ashtray series offers a range of sizes meticulously crafted for both functionality and artistic expression. Each piece is wheel-thrown, ensuring an authentic artisanal quality that serves as a perfect canvas for underglaze painting and professional glazing.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This product is delivered in bisque (unglazed) form. To ensure heat resistance and a professional finish, kiln firing and glazing are mandatory. Since these are wheel-thrown (hand-thrown) products, slight variations in dimensions are natural and expected.

Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

Refsan underglaze ready-to-use paints are highly compatible with these forms. Proper glazing increases both the aesthetic depth and the durability of the ashtray against heat and cleaning.

  • Ceramic Application: Fire between 1040°C and 1050°C for a professional, high-gloss, and easy-to-clean surface.
  • Tile (Çini) Application: Use tile glazes maturing at 900°C – 920°C for a refined, traditional artisanal look.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Suitable for display-only decorative projects using acrylic paints (no kiln firing required).
  • Safety Warning: Acrylic-finished items are not heat-resistant. Do not use for functional smoking if finished with acrylics.
  • Finish with a protective varnish post-painting for added longevity.

Craftsmanship & Handcrafted Variations

Each ashtray is carefully fired at 1050°C to reach its sturdy bisque state. Whether produced by slip casting or on the potter's wheel, minor variations in thickness, size, or clay tone (white vs. red clay) highlight the authentic, handcrafted nature of the product.

Firing Safety & Guidelines

  • Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and completely dry before applying glaze.
  • Strictly follow the temperature requirements for your specific glaze type.
  • Perform a test fire to observe how kiln variations affect the final bisque color.
