Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

  • Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready underglaze paints can be safely used on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes generally mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, creating a smooth and durable surface.
  • Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are typically fired between 900°C and 920°C, producing a thinner and elegant decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050°C. This firing process strengthens the ceramic body and enhances its natural tone. Different firing temperatures and kiln schedules may slightly influence the final surface texture and appearance.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting applications.
  • Warning: Acrylic paint is not suitable for food contact.
  • Applying a protective varnish after painting is recommended to improve durability.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require kiln firing and is intended for decorative purposes.

Handcrafted Nature and Possible Variations

Bisque ceramics produced by slip casting or wheel forming may show small variations in thickness and dimensions. Casting processes can naturally create thinner or thicker areas depending on the form structure. These variations give each product a unique handmade character.

Different clay bodies may also cause natural color variations. The color of ceramic bisque depends on the clay used. For example, white clay produces lighter tones while red clay produces warmer and darker shades.

Durability

Ceramic products reach their final durability after glazing and firing. Care requirements may vary depending on the finishing method. Glazed ceramic surfaces are generally more resistant to external factors, while acrylic painted decorations may wear over time.

Important Notes for Glazing and Firing

  • Clean and dry the product completely before glazing.
  • Ceramic and tile glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore correct firing temperatures must be used.
  • After acrylic decoration, applying protective varnish helps protect the surface from external factors.
  • Different firing temperatures may affect the color of bisque ceramics, therefore test firing is recommended.
