C1740 Crater - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

C1740 Crater is an artistic high-fire glaze that develops a perforated, porous, and foamy crater texture during high-temperature firing. Its matte and three-dimensional surface character gives forms a distinctive appearance reminiscent of volcanic rock, lava, and the lunar surface. Due to its porous structure, it is better suited for exterior and decorative surfaces rather than interior surfaces that come into direct contact with food.

Application Notes

• Brush application: Apply 2-5 coats to develop the crater structure. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats.
• Layer effect: As the number of coats and application thickness increase, pore size, expansion, and surface depth may become more pronounced.
• Clay body selection: The appearance of crater cavities, surface contrast, and color depth may vary between light- and dark-colored high-fire clay bodies.
• Firing effect: Crater development may vary depending on firing temperature, hold time, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate.
• Flow character: In thicker applications, the glaze may expand and move toward the lower areas of the form. Maintaining sufficient clearance from the kiln shelf is recommended.
• Preparation: Mix the glaze thoroughly before use to ensure an even distribution of the texture-forming components, and store it in its sealed container at room temperature.
