Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

Refsan underglaze ready-to-use paints can be safely applied to both tile (çini) and ceramic bisques. Glazing enhances both the aesthetic appeal and the structural durability of the piece.

  • Ceramic Products: When glazing ceramic bisque, use specific ceramic glazes that typically mature between 1040°C and 1050°C. This ensures a smooth, non-porous surface and increases longevity.
  • Tile (Çini) Products: For tile-based bisques, use tile glazes fired at approximately 900°C – 920°C to achieve a fine, traditional, and elegant finish.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative purposes without the need for kiln firing.
  • Warning: Acrylic-painted items are not food-safe and should not be used for serving.
  • Applying a protective varnish after acrylic painting is highly recommended to safeguard against environmental factors.

Handcrafting and Natural Variations

Our products are carefully fired at 1050°C to reach the bisque stage. Due to the nature of slip casting and wheel-turning methods, slight variations in thickness and dimensions may occur.

The type of clay used (e.g., white clay vs. red clay) can result in natural tone differences, ranging from light ivory to warmer, deeper hues. These variations reflect the authenticity of handcrafted ceramic art.

Firing and Glazing Responsibility

  • Surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and dried before glazing.
  • Since tile and ceramic glazes develop at different temperatures, strictly follow the recommended firing schedules.
  • Pre-testing is advised as different temperatures can slightly alter the final bisque color.
  • Outcome issues resulting from incorrect glaze choice or improper kiln management are the user's responsibility.
