Engobes are used to alter the natural color of a clay body, create a more balanced surface, and prepare a suitable base for subsequent decoration or glazing. Unlike the glossy surface character of glazes, AST 052 creates a natural, matte appearance.

Application Notes

• Product preparation: Before application, mix the product thoroughly until it reaches a uniform consistency.
• Surface preparation: The surface must be clean, dry, dust-free, and free from grease before application.
• Brush application: Apply the engobe in thin coats to achieve an even, opaque surface. Allow the surface to dry between coats.
• Dipping application: The dipping method can be used to achieve a smoother surface without brush marks.
• Application timing: The engobe can be applied to leather-hard or completely dry, unfired clay bodies.
