A378 Orange Lava - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

A378 Orange Lava is a reactive artistic low-fire glaze that creates porous, foamy, and crater-textured surfaces over warm orange and coral tones. Micro-bubbles and volcanic surface movements that develop during firing give ceramic forms an organic and three-dimensional appearance.

Food Safety: This glaze is suitable for food-contact surfaces when applied and fired under the correct conditions.

Application Notes

  • Brush application: For proper development of the lava texture and porous surface, 2-5 coats are recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Texture development: For a stronger cratered and foamy effect, 3-4 coats may be applied. Thinner applications may produce a more limited volcanic texture.
  • Consistency adjustment: For dipping or spraying applications, 10-15% water may be added depending on the desired consistency. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Reactive character: Bubble size, pore density, and color transitions may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, and firing schedule.
  • Surface use: The resulting porous and foamy texture may require extra care when cleaning. For functional ware intended for food contact, it is recommended to use this glaze on exterior surfaces rather than directly on food-contact areas.
  • Preparation: Mix the glaze thoroughly before use to ensure even distribution of the components responsible for the volcanic effect.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and highly textured low-fire glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
