Botz 9601 Signal Red is a ready-to-use liquid glaze distinguished by its exceptionally vivid and bright red color. After firing, it creates a glossy, intense and eye-catching surface. To achieve the desired red color intensity, apply at least 2 thick coats by brush and do not exceed a firing temperature of 1040°C.

Application Notes

• Mixing: Stir the product regularly before and during application to ensure that the red-producing components remain evenly distributed.
• Surface preparation: The bisque surface must be clean, dry, free from grease and thoroughly dust-free before application.
• First coat: Apply the first coat thickly and evenly, then allow it to dry sufficiently before applying the second coat.
• Second coat: Apply the second coat evenly and thickly to enhance the intensity of the red color and improve surface uniformity.
• Coat direction: The second coat may be applied in a different direction from the first to help minimize brush marks and variations in coverage.
• Thickness effect: Thinly applied areas may appear lighter or less intense. A thick application is recommended for a vivid signal-red result.
• Thickness control: When applying thick coats, avoid excessive glaze accumulation in recessed areas, corners and horizontal sections.
• Firing: Fire the product between 1020°C and 1040°C. The recommended ideal and maximum firing temperature is 1040°C.
• Temperature effect: If the firing temperature exceeds 1040°C, the vivid red color may shift toward pink tones.
• Clay body selection: Signal red may appear cleaner and more vivid on light-colored clay bodies, while results may vary on darker clay bodies.
• Raku application: The product is suitable for Raku firing; however, color and surface results may vary depending on the Raku firing schedule used.
• Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test the color transitions and surface compatibility on a test tile.
• Area of use: Do not use on the interior or food-contact surfaces of vessels intended for hot foods.
• Decorative use: The product may be used on decorative objects and pottery surfaces that do not come into contact with food.
• Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the glossy surface appearance.
• Safety: Ensure that the workspace is adequately ventilated during application and firing, and that kiln fumes are directed outdoors through a suitable ventilation system.
• Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and store at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
