Applications & Recommendations
Outdoor Ceramics
Suitable for garden pottery, planters, decorative outdoor ceramics, and architectural ceramic applications. Outdoor durability depends on wall thickness, drying conditions, and the selected firing schedule.
Large Sculptural Forms
The grog content increases structural strength, making it well suited for large, thick-walled sculptures and ceramic forms. It helps maintain shape during both forming and drying.
Hand Building
Suitable for slab building, coil building, and hand modeling of large ceramic forms. The grog provides additional stability throughout the forming process.
Press & Mold Forming
Can be used for press forming, mold forming, and template applications. Thorough wedging before use is recommended to achieve a uniform consistency.
WHEEL THROWING NOTICE
Due to its grogged and textured composition, this clay body is not recommended for wheel throwing. It is best suited for hand building, press forming, template work, and mold-forming techniques.
FIRING NOTICE
Although the bisque firing range is 900–1250°C, the recommended bisque firing temperature is 950–1050°C. Shrinkage may vary between 7% and 10% depending on the firing temperature and firing schedule.
Product Advantages
Wide Firing Range
Suitable for a variety of firing requirements between 900°C and 1250°C. Small-scale firing tests are recommended to determine the optimum firing schedule.
Excellent Shape Stability
The grogged composition helps reduce slumping and deformation in large and thick-walled ceramic forms.
Suitable for Outdoor Applications
When properly formed, dried, and fired, this clay body can be used to produce outdoor ceramic pieces exposed to rain, snow, and changing weather conditions.
Natural Surface Texture
The grog creates a distinctive natural texture, making it ideal for garden ceramics, sculptures, and decorative outdoor pieces.
Ideal for Large Forms
Its excellent structural strength makes it well suited for producing large sculptures, planters, and decorative architectural ceramics.
GLAZE COMPATIBILITY NOTICE
The selected glaze should be compatible with the recommended glaze firing range of this clay body. Glaze performance depends on more than just the grog content. Small-scale glaze compatibility and firing tests are strongly recommended before full-scale production.
For batch and production work, it is recommended to perform preliminary testing for forming, controlled drying, shrinkage, bisque firing, glaze compatibility, and outdoor durability before full-scale production.
