Cobalt Black 789 is a ready-to-use liquid glaze that creates an intense, opaque, matte black finish on pottery surfaces. It can be used to color plates, vases, sculptures, and decorative objects. Suitable for spray, dipping, or brush application, it develops a balanced matte surface after firing at approximately 1050°C.

Application Notes

• Mixing: Shake or mix the product thoroughly before application to ensure an even distribution of the coloring components.
• Surface preparation: The bisque ware must be clean, dry, and free from dust before application.
• Baumé adjustment: Adjust the product consistency carefully according to the preferred application method.
• Spray application: A Baumé Range of 38-40°Bé is recommended for compressor and spray-gun application.
• Dipping application: A Baumé Range of 40-42°Bé is recommended for dipping.
• Brush application: After leaving the standard product undisturbed for at least 12 hours, carefully remove the water accumulated on the surface with a syringe to achieve a brushable consistency.
• Concentrated packaging: The 250 ml option is prepared with reduced water content and increased pigment concentration for direct brush application.
• Drying: After application, the glaze may release its moisture to the surface quickly. Ensure that the coating is completely dry before firing.
• Cellulose use: If adjusting the dipping consistency is difficult, 1% cellulose may be added to the product in a controlled manner.
• Clumping warning: Cellulose may take time to dissolve and can cause clumping if it does not dissolve completely. Its use is therefore recommended only for experienced users.
• Single-color application: The product can be applied across the entire form to create a uniform matte black surface.
• Multicolor application: Graduated surfaces can be created using glazes in complementary or contrasting tones. Test color and melting compatibility on a sample tile.
• Underglaze decoration: Due to its opaque color, designs applied beneath the glaze may not remain visible after firing.
• Overglaze decoration: Once the glaze firing is complete, decorative details can be added using suitable overglaze colors.
• Firing: Once the glaze has released all its moisture, fire the product at approximately 1050°C.
• Safety: Use suitable personal protective equipment during application and ensure adequate ventilation in the working area. If the product comes into contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
• Storage: Store the product at room temperature with the lid tightly closed and away from direct sunlight. Protect from freezing.
