Application Notes

  • Surface preparation: The bisque surface must be clean, dry, and free from dust before application.
  • Mixing: Mix the product regularly before and during application to ensure an even distribution of pigments and glaze components.
  • Baumé adjustment: Adjust the product consistency according to the application method and check the measurement with a suitable Baumé hydrometer.
  • Spray application: For compressor and spray-gun application, preparing the product within a Baumé Range of 38-40°Bé is recommended.
  • Dipping application: For dipping, preparing the product within a Baumé Range of 40-42°Bé is recommended.
  • Brush application: For the standard product, leave the container undisturbed for at least 12 hours, then carefully remove the water accumulated on the surface with a syringe to achieve a brushable consistency.
  • 250 ml concentrated product: This option has reduced water content and increased pigment concentration and can be applied directly with a brush after thorough mixing.
  • Coat application: Apply the glaze in even coats, avoiding excessively thick or uneven areas.
  • Moisture control: After application, allow the surface moisture to evaporate. Place the piece in the kiln only after it has reached a suitable level of dryness.
  • Cellulose use: If the dipping consistency cannot be adjusted, experienced users may add 1% cellulose to the product.
  • Dissolving cellulose: Cellulose may take time to dissolve completely. Insufficiently dissolved cellulose can cause clumping in the glaze, so do not apply until the mixture is homogeneous.
  • Color transitions: The glaze can be applied as a single color or combined with harmonious, closely related tones to create graduated surfaces and distinctive patterns.
  • Underglaze decoration: Because 6702 Dark Brown may create an opaque or semi-opaque colored surface, the visibility of underglaze designs may be reduced or the designs may be completely covered.
  • Overglaze decoration: Once the glaze firing is complete, the surface can be decorated with compatible overglaze colors. The recommended firing schedule for the selected color must be followed separately.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other colored glazes, test color transitions, chemical compatibility, and flow behavior on a sample tile.
  • Safety: Use suitable personal protective equipment during application and ensure adequate ventilation in the working area. If the product comes into contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
  • Storage: Store the product at room temperature with the lid tightly closed and away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The intensity, surface gloss, and opacity of the dark brown tone may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, Baumé value, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere, and cooling schedule. Preparing a test tile with the intended bisque ware before the main application is recommended.
