Application Notes

• Graduated application: Areas of varying thickness should be created on the same surface to encourage crystal development. On vertical forms, the glaze may be applied more thickly toward the upper sections and gradually thinner toward the bottom.
• Color depth: Light brown tones may deepen in recessed and curved areas where the glaze pools, making the contours of the form more pronounced.
• Crystal density: Crystal formation may become denser as application thickness increases. In excessively thick areas, crystals may completely cover the surface, creating a more matte and slightly textured finish.
• Flow control: With applications of two or three coats or more, the glaze may become increasingly fluid. Sufficient clearance should be left near the base of the piece to prevent the glaze from running onto the kiln shelf.
