Application Notes

  • Surface preparation: The bisque-fired surface should be clean, dry, and free from dust before application.
  • Mixing: The product should be mixed regularly before and during application to ensure even distribution of pigments and glaze components.
  • Baumé adjustment: The product density should be adjusted according to the application method and checked using a suitable Baumé hydrometer.
  • Spray application: When using a compressor and spray gun, preparing the product within a Baumé range of 38-40 °Bé is recommended.
  • Dipping application: For dipping, preparing the product within a Baumé range of 40-42 °Bé is recommended.
  • Brush application: For the standard product, the container can be left undisturbed for at least 12 hours. Water accumulated on the surface can then be carefully removed using a syringe to achieve a consistency suitable for brush application.
  • 250 ml concentrated product: This option, with reduced water content and increased pigment concentration, can be applied directly by brush after thorough mixing.
  • Coat application: The glaze should be applied to the surface in even coats, avoiding excessively thick or uneven areas.
  • Moisture control: After application is complete, allow the surface moisture of the glaze to dissipate and place the piece in the kiln only after it has reached a suitable level of dryness.
  • Cellulose use: If the dipping consistency cannot be properly adjusted, experienced users may add up to 1% cellulose to the product.
  • Cellulose dissolution: Cellulose may take time to dissolve completely. Insufficiently dissolved cellulose can cause clumping in the glaze, so application should not begin until the mixture is homogeneous.
  • Color transitions: The glaze can be applied as a single color, or compatible tones can be combined to create gradient surfaces and distinctive patterns.
  • Underglaze decoration: Since Brown 193 may create an opaque or semi-opaque colored surface, the visibility of underglaze designs may be reduced or the designs may be completely covered.
  • Overglaze decoration: After the glaze firing is complete, decoration can be applied using compatible overglaze colors. The recommended firing schedule for the selected decorating product should be followed separately.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other colored glazes, color transitions, chemical compatibility, and flow behavior should be tested on a sample tile.
  • Safety: Appropriate personal protective equipment should be used during application, and the work area should be adequately ventilated. In case of eye contact, rinse the eyes thoroughly with plenty of water.
  • Storage: Keep the product tightly sealed at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The intensity, surface gloss, and opacity of the brown tone may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, Baumé value, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere, and cooling schedule. Preparing a test tile using the intended bisque-fired clay body is recommended before the main application.
