SP 1530 Fuchsite - Artistic Crystalline High-Fire Glaze

SP 1530 Fuchsite is an artistic crystalline high-fire glaze that develops light-colored crystal formations over emerald green tones. After firing, richer green areas may develop in central regions, while thicker glaze areas can produce icy, pale crystalline transitions. Its glossy and fluid character creates variable mineral-like patterns across the surface.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.
Flow Warning: This product is a highly fluid artistic glaze. On vertical forms, it should not be applied too close to the base, and sufficient unglazed clearance should be left to prevent glaze from flowing onto the kiln shelf.

Matte Black

Application Notes

  • Coat application: Apply the glaze in even coats to support balanced crystal development across the surface.
  • Crystal behavior: Crystal size, density, and distribution may vary depending on application thickness, peak firing temperature, and cooling rate.
  • Thickness effect: Pale crystalline formations and flow patterns may become more pronounced in areas where the glaze is applied more heavily.
  • Flow control: Leave areas near the base of vertical forms unglazed and consider that the glaze may move downward during firing.
  • Kiln shelf protection: Fire pieces on a protective catch plate or suitable kiln shelf separator to protect the kiln shelf from possible glaze runs.
  • Thinning: Add water gradually and in small, controlled amounts. Avoid excessive dilution.
  • Mixing: Stir the product thoroughly before and during application to ensure even distribution of its components.
  • Clay body effect: Emerald green and pale crystalline tones may appear more prominent on white high-fire clay bodies, while results may vary on darker or textured bodies.
  • Form effect: Glaze may accumulate in recessed, curved, and horizontal areas, producing richer color, crystal development, and flow effects.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test chemical compatibility, flow behavior, and surface reactions on a test tile.
  • Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the glossy finish and crystalline surface character.
  • Safety: Appropriate personal protective equipment should be used during application, and the work area should be adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and store away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the emerald green tones, crystal size and distribution, glaze flow, and surface gloss may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, peak firing temperature, kiln atmosphere, and cooling schedule. Testing on both vertical and horizontal test tiles is recommended before full-scale application to evaluate base clearance and crystal development.
