SP 1489 Bergamot - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1489 Bergamot is an artistic high-fire glaze that creates bergamot green, lichen green, and light cream transitions. Due to its fluid nature, color intensity may increase in recessed, curved, and horizontal areas of the form. After firing, it produces a glossy, dynamic surface with tonal variations depending on application thickness.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.
Flow Warning: This product is a fluid artistic glaze. On vertical forms, an unglazed safety margin should be left near the base to prevent the glaze from reaching the kiln shelf during firing.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: The product should be mixed thoroughly before and regularly during application to ensure an even distribution of color-producing components.
  • Layer application: Apply the glaze in even layers and carefully control the thickness throughout the form.
  • Thickness effect: Thinner areas may show lighter green tones, while thicker areas can develop more pronounced bergamot green, lichen green, and light-colored flowing variations.
  • Flow control: On vertical forms, consider that the glaze may move downward during firing and leave areas near the base unglazed.
  • Kiln shelf protection: To protect against possible glaze runs, fire the piece on a catch plate or suitable kiln shelf separator.
  • Dilution: For spray, dipping, or pouring applications, add water in small amounts and avoid over-diluting the product.
  • Form effect: The glaze may pool in recessed, curved, and horizontal areas, creating more intense green tones and dynamic transitions.
  • Clay body selection: Green tones and light-colored variations appear more pronounced on white and light-colored high-fire clay bodies, while results may vary on darker bodies.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test chemical compatibility, color transitions, and flow behavior on a test tile.
  • Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the gloss and artistic surface character.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure adequate ventilation in the working area.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the bergamot green tones, distribution of the lichen green and light-colored variations, glaze flow, and surface gloss may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere, and cooling schedule. Preparing both vertical and horizontal test tiles before the main application is recommended.
