SP 1460 Kahlo - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1460 Kahlo is an artistic high-fire glaze that develops tones ranging from sage green to vivid pistachio green, with a surface character that shifts between matte and glossy depending on firing temperature and application thickness. Its natural stone appearance, blue undertones, and microcrystal-like textures create distinctive variations across each surface.

Important Information: This glaze does not contain toxic substances. However, since it does not provide acid resistance, it is not recommended for surfaces that will come into direct contact with highly acidic foods such as vinegar, lemon, and similar ingredients.

Application Notes

  • Thin application: At lower temperatures and with thin coats, a more matte surface in light sage green tones with subtle yellowish variations may develop.
  • Thick application: In thicker areas, light green tones with blue undertones become more pronounced, with occasional glossy transitions.
  • High temperature: As the firing temperature approaches 1250°C, the surface may become predominantly glossy and develop vivid pistachio green tones.
  • Crystal effect: At higher temperatures, matte microcrystal-like particles may develop over the glossy surface.
  • Flow: The glaze produces more stable results between 1200°C and 1220°C. Its tendency to flow may increase between 1220°C and 1250°C and with thicker applications.
  • Crazing risk: Crazing may develop depending on compatibility between the clay body and glaze. Compatibility testing is recommended before the main application.
  • Clay body selection: Green tones and crystal-like effects appear more pronounced on white porcelain and light-colored high-fire clay bodies.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of Kahlo glaze may vary depending on application thickness, firing temperature, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on both vertical and horizontal test tiles is recommended before the main application.
