SP 1391 Lepidolite - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1391 Lepidolite is an artistic high-fire glaze that develops reactive lilac, purple, and bronze reflections over a dark anthracite and midnight blue base. Its mica-like particles can create shifting color effects depending on the angle of light. Flat areas produce a dark and balanced appearance, while curved areas and sections where the glaze pools may develop more intense metallic effects.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Base character: Dark anthracite and midnight blue tones may appear more pronounced on flat and evenly coated areas.
  • Particle effect: Reactive particles across the surface may produce shifting lilac, purple, copper, and bronze reflections under different lighting conditions.
  • Form effect: Metallic effects may become more intense on curved and vertical areas and in sections where the glaze pools.
  • Thickness effect: The dark base may dominate in thinner applications. In thicker areas, gloss and reactive color transitions may become more pronounced.
  • Cooling effect: The appearance of the mica-like particles may vary depending on the kiln cooling rate and firing schedule.
  • Consistency adjustment: For pouring or dipping applications, water should be added gradually and in a controlled manner to avoid over-thinning the product.
  • Clay body selection: The color and chemical composition of the high-fire clay body may affect the appearance of the dark base and lilac-bronze reflections.
  • Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the gloss and metallic reflections.
  • Safety: Gloves, an apron, and appropriate personal protective equipment should be used during application, and the work area should be adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and away from direct sunlight. If settling or thickening occurs, mix thoroughly before application and strain if necessary.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the lilac and bronze reflections, surface gloss, and particle effects may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln firing schedule, kiln loading arrangement, and cooling rate. Preparing test tiles with different application thicknesses is recommended before full-scale application.
