SP 1389 Bronzite - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1389 Bronzite is an artistic high-fire glaze that develops gold, bronze, and metallic reflections over a deep chocolate brown base. Its reactive and crystallized character can create flowing variations across the surface, giving ceramic forms a dark and layered appearance. In areas where the glaze pools, color depth and metallic brilliance may become more pronounced.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.
Fluidity Warning: This glaze may exhibit controlled flow during high-fire firings. With thick applications and on vertical forms, sufficient unglazed space should be left near the base, and the kiln shelf should be protected with a suitable protective plate.

Color Pairing Suggestions

The brown and metallic character of SP 1389 Bronzite can be paired with the following colors:

Anthracite
Warm White
Caramel / Earth Tones
Khaki / Olive Green
Copper / Matte Orange

Application Notes

  • Base character: With balanced application, rich chocolate brown and dark earthy tones may appear more pronounced.
  • Metallic reflections: Fine crystalline structures developing across the surface may produce gold and bronze reflections depending on the angle of light.
  • Thickness effect: The brown base may dominate in thinner applications. In areas where the glaze pools, metallic effects, gloss, and color depth may increase.
  • Form effect: Controlled flow may develop on curved and vertical surfaces, enhancing flowing transitions and variations between darker and lighter tones.
  • Crystal development: The density of crystallized particles may vary depending on the firing schedule and kiln cooling rate.
  • Flow control: With thick applications, the risk of the glaze moving toward the base may increase. Sufficient unglazed space should be left near the bottom of the piece.
  • Consistency adjustment: For pouring or dipping applications, water should be added gradually and in a controlled manner to avoid over-thinning the product.
  • Clay body selection: The color and chemical composition of the high-fire clay body may affect the appearance of the brown base and metallic reflections.
  • Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the metallic reflections and surface gloss.
  • Safety: Gloves, an apron, and appropriate personal protective equipment should be used during application, and the work area should be adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and away from direct sunlight. If settling or thickening occurs, mix thoroughly before application and strain if necessary.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of metallic reflections, crystal development, color depth, and fluidity may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln firing schedule, kiln loading arrangement, and cooling rate. Preparing vertical and horizontal test tiles with different application thicknesses is recommended before full-scale application.
