Technical Details and Application
Painting and Glazing
- Underglaze Decoration: Refsan underglaze paints can be safely used on both ceramic and traditional pottery bisque surfaces.
- Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes typically mature between 1040°C - 1050°C, producing a smooth and durable finish.
- Traditional Pottery Glazing: Pottery glazes are fired between 900°C - 920°C, creating a thinner and decorative surface.
Kiln Firing
Our products are carefully fired at 1050°C to reach the ceramic bisque stage. This firing temperature increases durability and enhances the natural tone of the clay body. Different firing temperatures or durations may slightly influence the final surface characteristics.
Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting; however, they are not suitable for food contact. Applying a protective varnish after painting is recommended. Acrylic decoration does not require kiln firing and is intended for decorative use.
Possible Product Variations
Small differences in thickness, dimensions, or surface tone may occur in bisque products produced by casting or wheel techniques. These variations reflect the handmade nature of ceramic production and give each piece a unique character.
The use of different clay types may also result in natural color variations. White clay generally produces lighter bisque tones, while red clay creates warmer and darker shades.
Product Durability
Firing and glazing processes significantly increase the durability of ceramic products. However, decorations made with acrylic paints may wear over time, therefore such pieces are recommended mainly for decorative use.
Important Notes for Firing and Glazing
- The product should be cleaned and completely dried before glazing.
- Ceramic and pottery glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore the appropriate firing temperature must be used.
- Applying varnish after acrylic painting helps protect the surface from external factors.
- Different firing temperatures may slightly affect the bisque color, therefore test firing is recommended.
