With opaque brown crystals scattered over a light brown transparent base, it gives your ceramic forms the aesthetic of a natural mineral layer. Crystal Development and Artistic Techniques

The artistic strength of Labradorite glaze comes from the organic reaction of the crystals to application thickness:

• Gradient Application: To trigger crystal formation, both thin and thick areas should be created on the same surface. On vertical forms, applying a thick layer at the upper sections and thinning downward helps the crystals distribute evenly across the surface.
• Color Depth: In recessed and curved areas where the glaze pools, the color shifts from light brown to dark brown, emphasizing the contours of the form.
• Crystal Matte: If the entire surface is applied too thickly, the crystals intensify and completely cover the surface, creating a slightly textured matte surface called a “crystal matte.”
