SP 1215 Nevada Stoneware Glaze

SP 1215 Nevada takes its name from the misty sand tones, mineral stone textures, and the rawest state of nature found in the Nevada deserts, bringing this organic essence onto your ceramics. This premium reactive glaze, developed at stoneware (high-firing) temperatures, produces subtle "desert sand" effects on a serene mink-gray base while breaking into rich brown-bronze tones along rims and relief details to form a magnificent natural depth. It promises an unparalleled textural richness for minimalist and raw designs.

✅ Food Safety: This glaze is food safe. Thanks to its high-temperature resistance and durable mineral structure, it can be confidently used for modern dinnerware, rustic serving bowls, and characteristic kitchen accessories.

Application & "Stone" Effect Notes

  • Breaking Character: The most distinct feature of this glaze is how it thins out on surface details (reliefs and sharp edges) to create a brown halo. This beautifully emphasizes the handmade value and artistic texture of your pieces.
  • Coating Thickness: For brush application, applying 3 layers is ideal to capture that rich, layered desert texture. Waiting for each coat to dry completely enhances the quality of the reaction.
  • Clay Selection: The "Nevada" tones emerge in their clearest form on white stoneware clays. On speckled or dark colored clays, the glaze shifts into a much more rustic and antique character.
  • Firing Regime: Reactive glazes can be mobile at high temperatures. While it pools at the lower parts of the form to enrich the effects, precautions against running should be taken near the feet of vertical pieces if applied heavily.
