SG 1208 Winter Sun - Ceramingo Stoneware Glaze

SG 1208 Winter Sun takes its name from the golden beams of light filtering through a misty sky on a snowy winter day. This reactive glaze, developed at stoneware (high-firing) temperatures, creates warm mustard and golden crystal clusters randomly scattered over a cool ice blue/gray background. Telling a unique story with every firing, this glaze adds an organic depth and high-end artistic value to your ceramic pieces.

✅ Food Safety: This glaze is food safe. Thanks to its durable structure achieved through high-temperature firing, it can be confidently preferred for modern dinnerware, characteristic tea bowls, and custom-designed stoneware mugs.

Application & Crystallization Notes

  • Crystal Formation: The most striking feature of this glaze—the golden crystals—develops depending on the application thickness and the kiln cooling rate. Thicker applications generally produce larger crystal clusters.
  • Coating Technique: For brush application, applying 3 layers is ideal to capture that rich, layered "winter sun" effect. The direction of each layer should be alternated to ensure glaze uniformity.
  • Firing Regime: The glaze may become fluid at stoneware temperatures. This allows it to pool at the lower parts of the form, enriching the reactive transitions; however, precautions should be taken against running in very thick applications.
  • Clay Selection: Crystal colors emerge in their clearest form on white stoneware clays. On speckled clays, the glaze gains a much more rustic and mystical character.
