SP 1474 - Michel Artistic Stoneware Glaze

SP 1474 Michel, named after the pinnacle of sculpture, brings a texture reminiscent of a living piece of nature to your ceramic forms. On a light sage green base, it offers brown specks and blue-grey variegated transitions evocative of antique stones and lichen-covered surfaces. With its reactive structure and fluid character, it creates artistic accumulations in the curves of the piece, highlighting the depth of the form.

✅ Food Safety & 🌊 Fluidity: This glaze is food safe. However, it has a fluid (runny) structure; therefore, attention must be paid to application thickness on vertical forms to prevent the glaze from running off the base. To protect kiln shelves, the use of a drip tray is recommended.

Artistic Character and Visual Effect

The artistic power of the Michel glaze lies in the natural contrast created by mineral distribution and fluidity:

  • Base Texture: A serene green tone gains organic depth with brown mineral specks added on top.
  • Fluid Variegation: The flowing structure of the glaze creates artistic accumulations (variegations) in bluish and greyish tones in the recessed areas of the form, offering an aged stone appearance.
  • Control: In thick applications made by brush, the intensity of the effect increases, while the tendency to run also becomes stronger.

Color Combination Suggestions

You can establish artistic balances by combining these natural and sculptural tones of Michel with the following colors:

Antique White (Soft Harmony)

Dark Brown (Earthy Effect)

Ash Grey (Modern Balance)

Deep Blue (Variegated Contrast)

Matte Black (Strong Accent)

Care, Safety, and Storage

  • Maintenance: High heat and chemicals in dishwashers may change the artistic effects or glossiness over time; hand washing is recommended.
  • Application Note: The glaze is shipped in a dense form. To achieve ideal fluidity in dipping or pouring methods, add water in a controlled manner.
  • Safety: Use of protective equipment (gloves, apron) is recommended during application.
  • Storage: Store airtight and away from direct sunlight. If the product dries out while waiting, add water and strain before use.
