SP 1476 - Merisi Artistic Stoneware Glaze

SP 1476 Merisi takes its name from the Baroque genius Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi) and his famous "chiaroscuro" dramatic style. On a deep anthracite and smoky black base, it offers silvery and bronze shimmers reminiscent of antique metals or oxidized iron. It is a reactive glaze designed to create both masculine strength and Baroque luxury in your high-fire stoneware forms.

✅ Food Safety: This glaze is food safe. It can be safely preferred for elegant gourmet restaurant sets, characteristic serving bowls, and professional stoneware mug designs.

Artistic Character and Visual Effect

The artistic power of the Merisi glaze is based on the way the metallic pigments refract and absorb light:

  • Base Texture: Saturated black and anthracite tones give the piece a volcanic stone or processed cast iron feel.
  • Metallic Shimmers: Silvery glimmers become prominent on the edges and high points of the form, filtering light out of the darkness—just like in a Caravaggio painting.
  • Texture Effect: Offers a smooth but visually deep, mineral-rich finish.

Color Combination Suggestions

You can establish an artistic balance by combining these strong and metallic transitions of Merisi with the following tones:

Pure White (Strong Contrast)

Gold Luster (Magnificent Accent)

Slate Grey (Modern Harmony)

Copper / Terra Cotta (Warm Contrast)

Midnight Blue (Tonal Depth)

Care, Safety, and Storage

  • Application: The glaze is shipped in a dense consistency. For dipping or pouring methods, adjust the density by adding controlled amounts of water to achieve ideal fluidity.
  • Maintenance: High temperatures and chemicals in dishwashers may cause matting in metallic reflections over time; hand washing is recommended.
  • Safety: Protective equipment should be used during application, and children should apply under supervision.
  • Storage: Store airtight and away from direct sunlight. If the product dries out after waiting for a long time, add water and strain before use.
