Goerg & Schneider 1112 Stoneware Clay Body
Goerg & Schneider 1112 is a white-firing ceramic clay body containing 20% grog with a particle size of 0–1 mm. It is suitable for high-fire stoneware applications. Its balanced plasticity makes it suitable for modeling and hand-building work, while the grog content helps support the form and creates a natural surface texture.

Applications & Recommendations
Hand Building
Suitable for slab building, coil building, and free-form modeling techniques used to create vases, planters, decorative objects, and three-dimensional ceramic pieces.
Sculpture & Modeling
The 20% grog content helps support the clay body while shaping medium and thick-walled ceramic forms.
Textured Surface Applications
The 0–1 mm grog particles create a natural and pronounced surface texture. Carving, combing, and relief techniques may be applied at the leather-hard stage.
White Stoneware Surfaces
The white fired color provides a neutral base for light-colored glazes, transparent finishes, and decorative applications.
High-Fire Glazing Applications
Suitable for use with different stoneware glazes within the 1200–1280°C firing range. The selected glaze must be compatible with the clay body’s thermal expansion and firing characteristics.
DRYING & SHRINKAGE NOTICE
Drying shrinkage is approximately 4%. Firing shrinkage may increase from 7% to 9% as the temperature rises. Total shrinkage should be considered when designing pieces that require dimensional accuracy.
FIRING & WATER ABSORPTION NOTICE
Water absorption decreases as the firing temperature increases. The reported water absorption value of 0.5% at 1280°C may vary depending on the kiln schedule and production conditions.
GLAZE COMPATIBILITY NOTICE
Glaze results depend on application thickness, kiln atmosphere, soaking time, and thermal expansion compatibility. Test tiles should be prepared before full-scale production to reduce the risk of crazing, peeling, or deformation.
Product Advantages
White Fired Color
The white clay body helps glaze colors and decorative details appear more clearly.
Balanced Grog Content
The 20% grog content supports the form during shaping and drying without completely reducing the clay body’s plasticity.
Distinctive Surface Texture
The 0–1 mm grog particles help create naturally textured ceramic surfaces with a pronounced character.
High-Fire Performance
The 1200–1280°C firing range provides flexibility for a variety of high-fire stoneware applications.
Low Water Absorption at High Temperature
At 1280°C, water absorption may decrease to approximately 0.5%, helping produce a denser and more vitrified clay body.
Before full-scale production, testing is recommended for forming, drying, total shrinkage, glaze compatibility, water absorption, and firing performance.
