SP 1129 Maroon (Deep Burgundy) Stoneware Glaze

SP 1129 Maroon is a special effect glaze that brings the most noble and deep shades of dark cherry and burgundy together with high-fire (stoneware) durability. While this glaze offers a rich, saturated maroon-burgundy tone on flat surfaces, it beautifully "breaks" into a crystallized cream/white tone along edges, reliefs, and contours, creating an immense visual depth. Its glassy, glossy texture lends a dramatic and luxurious artistic identity to every piece it is applied to.

✅ Food Safety: This glaze is food-safe and non-toxic. Thanks to its high-temperature resistance, it is highly durable against crazing and can be safely preferred for modern dinnerware sets, luxury coffee cups, and professional serving bowls.

Application and Effect Notes

  • Breaking Characteristics: The most distinct feature of this glaze is its tendency to thin out over the raised areas of the form, creating a light-colored reactive halo. This effect highlights the handcrafted value of the product and emphasizes the details of the form.
  • Application Technique: For brush applications, applying 3 coats is generally recommended to achieve saturated color and optimal depth of effects. Alternating the direction of each coat enhances surface homogeneity.
  • Clay Selection: The maroon/cherry tone appears brighter and clearer on white stoneware clays, while it takes on a much more rustic and mystical character on speckled or dark clay bodies.
  • Dilution: To catch the ideal fluidity for spraying or dipping methods, you can optimize the viscosity by adding 5-10% water according to your own application style.
