Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

• Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready underglaze paints can be safely used on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
• Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes typically mature between 1040°C and 1050°C. This firing range creates a smooth surface and improves the durability of ceramic products.
• Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are generally fired between 900°C and 920°C, producing a delicate and refined decorative surface.

Bisque Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050°C. This firing process increases the durability of the tile and prepares the surface for glazing and decoration.

Different firing schedules or kiln temperatures may slightly affect the final surface appearance and texture.

Acrylic Paint for Decorative Use

• Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting on the tile surface.
• Warning: Acrylic paints are not suitable for food contact surfaces.
• Applying protective varnish after acrylic painting is recommended.
• Acrylic decoration does not require firing and is intended for decorative use only.

Possible Product Variations

Bisque products produced by casting or wheel techniques may show minor differences in thickness and dimensions. During the casting process, structural characteristics of the form may naturally create thinner or thicker areas.

The type of clay body used may also cause natural color variations. Ceramic and tile bisque colors may vary depending on the clay used. For example, white clay produces lighter tones, while red clay creates warmer and darker bisque shades.

Durability and Firing Recommendations

• Products should be cleaned and completely dried before glazing.
• Tile and ceramic glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore the correct firing temperature must be used.
• After acrylic painting, varnish should be applied for protection against external factors.
• Different firing temperatures may slightly affect the color of bisque products, therefore test firing is recommended.
